About

MsgFileViewer is a free, independent tool that reads Outlook .msg email files — subject, sender, recipients, date, body, and attachments — entirely in your browser. No account, no upload to a server, no cost.

What it actually does

You choose or drop a .msg file, and the tool runs msgreader — a real, published, open-source, MIT-licensed npm package built specifically to parse Outlook's proprietary CFBF/MAPI binary format — locally in your browser to pull out the readable email underneath. The library is vendored directly into this site's own files (not loaded dynamically from a third-party CDN at request time), so what runs is a fixed, auditable copy. Nothing is a black box: the parsed subject, sender, recipient list, date, plain-text body, and each attachment's file name and size come straight from the fields the library extracts.

Who this is for

Anyone who has received a .msg file but doesn't have Outlook installed — Mac users, Linux users, or anyone using a different mail client — plus legal and IT professionals who regularly need to review batches of exported .msg files for eDiscovery, mailbox migration audits, or forensic review, without licensing or launching Outlook for a one-off read.

What it is not, plainly stated

How your data is handled

Every file you open is processed entirely on your own device — nothing is uploaded to, or stored on, our servers, because there is no server-side file processing at all. See the full privacy policy for the complete picture, including the (very short) list of network requests this page makes on load — none of which include your file.
